HandyI was seeking an effective low cost method of removing paint from a cinder block retaining wall so that I could apply stone veneer. There are really only 2 ways to prepare a painted wall for veneer stone; attach metal lathe to the wall and cover with a scratch coat of cement or remove all the paint. The Dewalt grinding wheel did the trick at the lowest cost. I do not recommend using this wheel for large areas as it creates alot of dust. I only did a small area at a time because of this and used a water sprinker to knock the dust cloud out of the air set up down wind from the work area. A good quality dust respirator is essential when using this tool. If a large area such as the entire first floor of a cinder block house needs to be resurfaced or if you do this kind of work for a living then I would recommend a dedicated tool with a larger diameter cupped wheel and a vaccum attachment for dust removal which cost about $300. But for smaller jobs the $60 dewalt diamond grinding wheel works just fine. This tool would also be good to remove old thinset on stone or tile floors.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.works greatBy boweroftugI used this to grind down some uneven concrete wall surfaces and it worked really well. Didn't last quite as long as I had hoped.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.Grinding WheelBy Tom WynnWorks great. I have used it on brick, concrete and soapstone.
