It’s hard to imagine anything DeWalt could do to improve this saw. As with it little siblings, the DW716 and DW715, the feature at the top of our list is the fantastic miter detent override, allowing you to compensate for a world that just isn’t square all the time. Normally, setting a 44.7-degree miter would leave you with a fight on your hands with regular detents, because of that annoying tendency saws have to snap in when you get too close. But with the integrated override, you can cut as close to a detent as you need to without slipping in. The 718 miters 60 degrees to the left and 50 degrees to the right, with 10 zero-play detents, and all dead-on accurate. Of course, we like the miter cam lever, too, a great improvement over the old turnscrew knob. The tall sliding fence has a machined support that promises nothing but the ultimate long-term accuracy. We like the extra height because it supports crown molding beautifully, even up to 6-5/8 inches nested, and base molding up to 6-1/2 inches vertically. Need a bevel cut? The fence slides neatly out of the way for bevels, anywhere from 0 to 48 degrees both left and right. (If you’re in the market for this much power but just a single bevel, check out the DeWalt715 saw. A close second to this saw, without the slide, is available in the DW716 model.)There are absolutely no complaints from this motor no matter what you’re cross-cutting, as it’s drawing 15 beefy amps and has a max rpm of 3,600, slicing through 2-by oak like it’s paper. What we found extremely impressive is the saw’s ability to crosscut a 2 x 16 just by adding an auxiliary base to bring the stock up to level with the back fence. At a 45-degree miter, you’re still able to cross-cut a 2 x 12.If portability is a factor, understand that the slide function adds a little weight, so this saw tips the scales at 53 pounds, nine pounds more than the next model down from this. Still, easy-on-the-body handles built into the base offer a nice, wide, secure grip. This is more saw than most do-it-yourselfers need, but it’s a contractor’s dream. -- Kris Jensen-Van HesteFactory-Reconditioned DEWALT DW718R Heavy-Duty 15 Amp 12 inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

It works really well, and with the wider cross cuts, it really enhances the capability. I have not yet used the left or right tilt, but I think that will be very handy. I do most of my Crown Molding cuts with the stops (purchased separatly) and it has worked very well for these. As a reconditioned saw at a good price, I can't tell it from new.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful.Great saw, great price!By C. RuffinoLet me start by stating that I've only had this unit for about 3 weeks now. I have not used it extensively, but enough to say that it's a great machine. This is the first miter saw that I've owned, and it replaces an older Delta radial arm. I've used DeWalt miter saws in a workshop where I took some classes and loved the units. They stood up well to all the student use and abuse, which speaks well to the durable construction.I purchased a reconditioned unit for a few reasons: 1) It was only about $100 more than a smaller, less capable unit. 2) I don't plan on using this in a production capacity. 3) A good friend promised to give me grief if I bought a saw that was smaller than his :-)The unit arrived in perfect condition. It's heavy, so if you have a bad back like I do, have help when the package arrives. It's ready to use right out of the box. I checked how square the unit was and the fence-to-blade measurement was dead on. The table-to-blade measurement was off by just a little bit, but was very easy to adjust.Using the saw is very nice. I'm using the DeWalt blade that came with the saw, and it cuts very cleanly. The horizontal handle is very comfortable to use. Adjusting the miter or bevel is very easy using either the locks or the free adjustment. The one down side that I found to this machine, and it's a minor point, is that the blade takes a little longer than I'd like to spin up to speed. This is a 12" blade, so it's going to take a little more torque to crank up. I find that I have to wait 3-4 seconds before the blade is running fast enough to start the cut. That doesn't sound like a lot, but that'll add up quickly when you're trying to make a bunch of cuts for molding or whatever it is you're working on. This is the reason I gave this unit 4 out of 5 stars.10 of 13 people found the following review helpful.Great Power Tool!By Kenneth E. NelsonThis DeWalt 12" Dual Bevel-Sliding Compound Miter Saw is the best. It "slices" the wood as if it was butter. Quick and easy. Mitering made easy with this tool. Easy to operate. This was a replacement saw from my old DeWalt 10" and I love it. I purchased it for my boyfriend because we are in the process of building a new garage and it will make it very quick and easy to cut the studs - all angles and straight! Can hardly wait to teach him how to use it! (And, yes, I'm a Female!)See all 13 customer reviews...
