A workhorse in many contractors' and serious carpenters' toolboxes, DeWalt's 3/8-inch drill is an old standard that professionals reach for time and time again. We especially like how its new ergonomic design incorporates finger grooves that allow you to grip the drill more comfortably from the back, unlike other more conventional pistol-handle drills. As a result, it's remarkably easy to apply pressure with the DeWalt as though it were an extension of your arm. This provides not only more power but also increased control. The trigger can be easily reached from almost any grip, and, as is standard, there's also a trigger lock if you're using your drill for sanding or polishing. One of the drill's best added features is the built-in two-way level that assists in drilling accurate holes either vertically or horizontally--a feature you won't find on most of the competition. The drill is durable, too. DeWalt has definitely designed this drill for long life, from the burly fan-cooling system to the all-ball-bearing construction down to the solid 3/8-inch keyed chuck. And at just 3.3 pounds, it packs 5.4 amps, with a no-load speed range of 0 to 2,500 rpm. Simply put, this drill delivers performance and dependability without putting a hole in your pocket. --Justin PaulDEWALT DW100 3/8-Inch Heavy Duty Variable Speed Reversing 5.4 Amp Drill With Keyed Chuck

Jacobs chuckBy I amI've had this drill for about 15 years now and it's still going strong. I just upgraded the standard keyed Jacobs chuck to a new Rohm keyless chuck ( 3/8-24 thread...), but the old keyed chuck was still fine. I just wanted the convenience of the keyless chuck. I ordered a Jacobs keyless but found out the new Jacobs chucks are made in Taiwan and China, so I sent it back and got the German made Rohm (p/n 871044) instead. The Jacobs keyed chuck that came on the drill was made in the USA but that was 15+ years ago. I guess Jacobs is outsourced it's production to Asia now. So much for Jacobs. If you do upgrade to the Rohm keyless chuck make sure to add a few shims to the shaft before you install the chuck or it will bottom out on the shaft and seize against the plastic drill body in that area. I had some thin walled stainless washers that I used for shims, works great now. The Rohm chuck has an awesome bit grip too. Nice upgrade.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful.Solid, dependable, muscular drilling and driving.By JeffDon't bother with the nervous-seeming Black & Decker or Skil 3/8" corded drills. For a few bucks more you can have this professional grade monster powering though whatever you ask it to do. The keyless chuck is easy on your hands and holds fast. The yellow shell is touhg, comformatble, extremely visible, and durable. It's pretty quiet also. No bad things to say whatsoever.See all 4 customer reviews...
