Here’s a nice combo that features the best in drivers. Torque, speed and great ergonomics: DeWalt pulled it all together in this 14.4-volt XRP 1/2-inch drill/driver. Even at its peak 450 inch-pounds of torque, you feel no twist. We're impressed, too, with the patented three-speed transmission for whatever material you're drilling into. Its max speed of 1,800 rpm is 29 percent faster than high speed. In hammerdrill mode, you’ve got 30,600 blows per minute in your hands. We like the all-metal ratcheting chuck with carbide jaws because we've had a bit slip every now and then, and the jaws help keep a tight grip on the shank. It's well-balanced, comfortable to grip and a joy to use. The impact driver is equally impressive, and you won’t realize how much you’ve needed one until you have one. It’s super compact and surprisingly lightweight, easing the burden on your arm and letting you get into the tightest workspace. Once you’re in there, you’ve got an amazing 1,150 inch-pounds of torque in your hand, making short work of even the biggest fasteners without taking a toll on your body. Great in the shop or on the jobsite.--Kris Jensen-Van HesteDEWALT DC984IA Heavy Duty 14.4-Volt Ni-Cad Cordless 2-Tool Combo KitThere's no job too tough for this 14-volt cordless hammerdrill/impact driver combo kit from DeWalt. The hammerdrill cranks out 450 inch-pounds of torque for drilling large diameter holes and driving large screws. Equipped with a patented, 3-speed transmission, it's easy to adjust the tool speed to the task at hand for optimal performance. With a maximum hammering speed of 30,600 BPM, this 14-volt tool makes quick work of tough masonry jobs. A 1/2-inch all metal, ratcheting chuck with carbide jaws prevents bit slippage. The DW054 impact driver in this combo kit delivers more torque, faster speed and greater control in a package smaller than cordless drills. The tool cranks out 1,150 in./lbs. of maximum torque, and features variable speed ranges from 0-2,400 rpm and 0-3,000 bpm for optimal power and versatility. For driving large lag screws into pressure treated lumber, or for quickly driving self-tapping screws into sheet metal, this is the tool for the job. And, this impact driver handles great, too, which is essential when fastening large nuts and bolts. At just 6-1/2 inches long, the DW054 handles like a featherweight champ in tight quarters. A heavy-duty impact mechanism drives larger fasteners with less kickback, so it won't tweak your wrists. Meeting the demands of the job site or the shop, the DW054 features a heavy-duty magnesium gear case and durable all-metal transmission. A textured, anti-slip, comfort grip and wrap-around rubber molding provide extended control and comfort for those extended jobs. Equipped with an all-metal 1/4-inch hex quick release chuck, the DW054 accepts all 1/4-inch hex accessories for driving, drilling and fastening in a wide variety of materials. The combo kit includes the drill/driver/hammer-drill, DW054 impact driver; two XRP extended run-time batteries, one-hour charger, double-ended screwdriver bit, and contractor's bag. The Quality of the XRP tools is superb. Right out of the box I was impressed with the look of the tools. I am a woodworker and the impact driver is a real handy tool. Since I've been using the impact driver, I have never stripped out another screw head. This used to happen quite a bit using a drill to drive screws. This is my favorite tool. I haven't had the need to use the hammerdrill yet but I am looking forward thinking about different projects I will be able to use it for. The included Dewalt bag has come in very handy also. I have plenty of room to put in the drill, driver, and the charger with room left to put in things like drop cords and worklights. I am very satisfied with my purchase. All the guys at the shop are jealous too.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful.14.4v Hammer Drill Chuck WobbelBy Tim in MelbouneThere is signficant wobbel in the Chuck that is provided with the 14.4v Hammer Drill. I've contacted the Dewalt customer service representatives, but they deny there is any systemic issue with their manufacturing and quality control process on this particular drill(I've seen several other reviews on this drill that indicate similiar problems). I like the 14.4v impact driver, tons of power. However, after using my dads Makita I find that drill impact driver to probably be a better balanced tool and the metal hydride batteries are a plus. If I can get the Chuck wobbel straightened out with Dewalt on the hammer drill I would still consider this a good deal.4 of 5 people found the following review helpful.I love emBy hanzinatorJust got these in the mail today and used both of the drills tonight. So far they work great. I am building a house right now and I can already tell how useful these drills will be. The impact drill drives screws fast and easy. I am building the countertops for my home and the screws I drive into the plywood sheets enter the wood with amazing speed. The other nice thing about this drill is that the torque "breaks" when the screw is flush with the wood. Although you can still drive the screw deeper if you wish. The hammer drill works great too. I used it tonight to drill a door catch for my basement door. The security screws that hold the deadbolt catch are so long that you have to drill into the foundation. No problem at all with this drill. The other thing I love about this drill is the ease in tightening the bit onto the drill. With one hand you can tighten the drill bit...like I said I am in love. I would recommend this package to anyone in the market for a new drill set. A+.See all 9 customer reviews...
